Kareem Amer
Here's a copy of the email I sent to the Belgian Foreign Service regarding Kareem Amer's imprisonment in Egypt. I urge all my readers. (Yes, you three!) to do the same and to write to their politicians to move foreword on this issue. :)
Dear Foreign Public Service,
as a Belgian, I feel that it is important that my country's foreign service stands up for values enshrined by our constitution, even abroad. This is why I am writing to you about Abdul Kareem Nabeel Suleiman, better known by his pseudonym Kareem Amer who was recently imprisoned in Egypt for expressing his opinion online. You have probably already head about this case, so I will not burden you with the details again, however I urge you to express severe concern to Egypt officials in our, all Belgians concerned by free speech, collective name. I also urge you to collaborate with your colleagues at the European Union to take action to insure Kareem's liberation in the quickest delays. While I understand that I am not qualified to decide such drastic measures, I would also appreciate your consideration of economic sanctions towards Egypt should they not prove cooperative on this issue. (I do understand that such action is severe and can possibly do more harm than good, but I am grateful for your consideration of all options)
Thank you for your time and efforts to promote our common values,
Sincerely,
Perhaps I should print it and send it as a physical letter, what do you think?
